sure. s3 makes good drivers for windows, and nothing for linux.
quality of linux s3 drivers is between shit and worse-than-nothing.
and it's because s3 doesn't release specs, just like nvidia.

about sound - creative cards seems to be well supported under linux.
i had no problems with sb16, sb 128 and sb-live.
note that sb live can't be installed under win nt 4 hun :)
