You can download them from mplayer home page.

Unpack them in /usr/local/share/mplayer/font dir.

Now if you don't have proper font.desc file for your code page I suggest
to use konwert program to recode the sub text file to utf8 encoding.

For example:

$ konwert cp1250-utf8 name.txt -o name.utf

Now if you have name.avi and name.utf files in the same dir command

$ mplayer name.avi

should result in automatically loading utf8 text file and displaying
diacritical chars properly.
