Ok I know this is probably documented somewhere but I don't know where.. I
am running the current cvs and I would like to try compiling with gui but
when I run ./configure --enable-gui it doesn't finish it stops and says
something about not using the gui.. is it not possible to use yet?

Thanks

Every user wants to see different things at different places.
Feel you free to edit mplayer.c, it's opensource!

maybe some customizable display format (for both osd and statusline) could
solve this dilemma.

Or use the gui, it also shows the progress bar.

And displaying number of total frames is possible only for AVI files.
