Hi,

This is a bit offtopic, but as many user interested in buying matrox card,
i've posted here:

Just got a G550 (not for free, I've bought it for a job, after you said that
it has linux drivers already), and made some tests.

First, about linux support:
on the driver CD there is their driver release 1.4.1 , which supports G550.
so there is both Xvideo and DRI (3D) support using X 4.0.3 or 4.1.0.
I've just fixed and commited mga_vid, so it works with G550 too.

TV-out isn't supported, similar way as G450. (no X11 and no matroxfb) :(

Xv/mga_vid speed seems to be same as G400, but 3D differs:

I've used Astral - HAUgyJOBB (3D demo) for benchmark:
(very complex realtime 3D animation, using various graphics primitives
like thin lines, curves, textured and shaded surfaces, display lists)

                   G400MAX: G550DDR:
                 (32MB 5ns SGRAM) (32MB DDR)
640x480x16bpp: 6513 8149
640x480x32bpp: 5506 6383
1024x768x16bpp: 4725 5088
1024x768x32bpp: 3673 3380
(values are total number of frames displayed)

So, as you can see, RAM seems to be slower on G550 while GPU is faster.
(g550 is slower only at high resolutions, where RAM speed matters)
Both card has 360MHZ DAC, while the G550 is much cheaper (about 60%) than
G400MAX. (but don't forget: G450/G550 has no TV-out support under linux)

I didn't seen rendering bugs, nor crashes or hangup. Both cards/drivers
runs very stable on my overclocked celeron2-800 @ 1066.
