They are still unknown...

Fixed. File has strange (but still standard-compliant) format, which
triggered a broken-file-check in my demuxer. I've disabled this chack,
because it doesn't really help but cause problems like this one.

> Taxi Driver.avi

Divx$ codec problem, report to projectmayo/divx.com

> The Hurricane [1of2].avi
> The Hurricane [1of2].txt
Badly encodec file. The encoder used fps conversion (maybe 25->24fps), so it
has missing frames. It causes jerky playback with all players (not
mplayer-specific)

> brokenframe.asf
the file is broken, but mplayer should be able to play it...
still has to be fixed...

> jp3.avi
> jp3.txt
it has broken index table. (wrong chunk offsets)
playable with -forceidx

> missing_video_stream.avi
totally broken file. seems to be downlaoded with REGET from a server which
doesnt support it... the avi header is repeated many times inside the
file... unplayable with all players.

> unscalable.avi
> unscalable.txt
it uses indeo 3 codec, which requires flipping in libvo.
Atmos should check it, my tipp: -flip disables scaling.

Done.

they are playable now.

this is playable, by forcing ffmpeg audio codec (-ac ffmp3)

> ./lasvegas-vts_01_1.rep:
> interlaced mpeg2 not yet supported. wait for libvo2...
Ivan's patch applied. try now.
