[MPlayer-users] mencoder how to remove black bars

how would i go about removing a portion of the video image
from the top and bottom of the source material? In this
case, remove the letterboxing from a movie.

I read the man page and the encoding.html, but I see only
-x and -y for the final size of the movie. Is there another
way that is in mplayer/mencoder already? What is the
'proper' way to do this?
