I was wondering, if we could achieve panscan feature with current mplay
er (and its vo plugins).
The idea of panscan is simple: we have a 16:9 movie to watch. When we
watch it on 4:3 screen, there are black bars - above and below. Not go
od. We can rescale the whole movie, but then it looses aspect. So why
won't we do it like this: resize vertically, to fill the screen, thus
deleting the black bars, and then cut a bit from the left and right size
and center on the full screen. In this way, we get a nice aspected mo
vie, a bit crippled though ;)
So then - how, and if can we do it in mplayer?
I think one can fiddle with proper -vop, but the drawback is, you have
to recalculate the values for it for yourself.
I've spoken with Mark Zealey on the OPN network, and he told me, that
it can be implemented in tdfxfb's driver with only a few lines of code
added IF panscan was implemented as an extern variable or passed to con
fig()
I'm no programmer, but I hope that I can start a dispute about it, and
some smart developer (/me winks at Mark ;) will implement it ;>
Best regards,
Q.
