I think u have problems with SDL stuff.

Anymway, try other video drivers such:

mplayer -vo x11
mplayer -vo xv   (fast)
mplayer -vo gl
mplayer -vo gl2
mplayer -vo dga

btw: Are you launching mplayer from a X session?
