[MPlayer-users] cropping and updating aspect

If i crop a file at playback surely the aspect of the film should 
automatically be re calculated? Taking a 720x288 movie, and applying "-vop 
crop=512:288" to chop off the edges (hey, i can live with a few talking 
noses) the film is still shown at 720x288, and i need to manually set the 
aspect to 16:9 to make it the right size? Is there a justifiable benefit 
from this not being automatic? I can't think of a possible benefit at all, 
but i guess there might be. i know i can still scale it like i would do if 
i were encoding it, but it would seem logical to do that automatically?
