[MPlayer-users] encoding is slow, is it normal for my system?

Hi!

I'm making a 3 pass encode from a dvd, the movie is 1h 15m long. The 3
pass encoding on an athlon 500 with 256 megs of ram takes 7-9 hours. I'm
using the following options:
 mencoder -dvd 1 -pp 0x20000 -ovc frameno -o frameno.avi
mencoder -dvd 1 -pp 0x20000 -oac copy -lavcopts
vcodec=msmpeg4:vbitrate=1056:vhq:vpass=1
and same as the above, except vpass=2.

Is my system slow, or is something wrong? By the way, is the latest
divx4linux package (2002.04.18) supported? Last time, I have tried it
crashed by encoding. Thx.
