Actually, I find MPlayer to be a great testing ground for compilers.
Recently, I've found a bug in gcc-3.1 which was triggered by MPlayer's
core codec ffmpeg and reported it at RedHat's bugzilla. It was fixed
within a day in both places. FFmpeg guys worked around it and RH's gcc
maintainer fixed this in gcc source. So please don't be so confident
in gcc, because - more often than not - the fault was on its side, rather
than on MPlayer's.
