I've got amd-k6 450Mhz with hitachi gd7500 12x
hdparm -d1 -a8 -u1 -k /dev/hdc
and it gives:
  Timing buffer-cache reads:   128 MB in  2.36 seconds = 54.24 MB/sec
  Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in 14.07 seconds =  4.55 MB/sec
