[MPlayer-users] Using mplayer without X

I am trying to see if mplayer can do the following and if so what is the best graphics card for the choice, considering quality and compatibility.  I would like to use mplayer with Linux or FreeBSD and have mplayer play videos fullscreen out a vidio card through tv-out.  I would like to do this on a machine without X and where the video playing was directed out the tv out and did not play on the computer monitor.  The reason is I would like to use mplayer for an advertisement television.  So when the machine was booting nothing would display on the tv but when mplayer was launched and the video was playing it would display on the tv.  From what I have read mplayer can more than handle this but my problem is selecting a high quality video card that can do all this.
