Compilation at the end of what?  Do you mean the hundreds of linking
errors?

That is still likely to be the effect of old compiled bits left around.
I know that shared libraries should be fairly adaptable with different
compiler versions, but it still may be necessary to make clean and
rebuild the live part before ./configuring mplayer again.
