[MPlayer-users] Problems w/ AC3 pass-through on SB Live!

Hi all,
I've been trying to get DVD playback with AC3 pass-through on my SB Live!
sound card. I'm fresh out of ideas and I'm hoping someone can help. (Or
maybe it's an mplayer bug?)

Here's a run-down of the problem:
Using alsa that I got from CVS on 2002-08-18.
Using mplayer CVS snapshot from 2002-08-18.
Extracting ac3 audio with mencoder and playing it with `ac3dec -P` works.
With mplayer, I either get garbage from the speakers or no audio.
MPlayer behaviour:
"-ac hwac3" produces garbage to the speakers. Output:

Can't set audio device /dev/dsp to AC3 output, trying S16...
