do you have libavcodec ?

duno
the mp2/mp3 decoder part is from mpg123, and i don't really understand how
does it work or not work. mayeb soneone who knows teh mpeg audio format in
details and has interest in fixing those bugs could look at it.
anyway there is 2 end of the line, performance+instability (mp3lib) and
quality+stability (libmad)

mad has error checks everywhere, so it's more robust, but so slower.
anywya mp3lib crashes are rare, i've heard only 3 cases including your when
it crashed.
