What about adapting mencoder to use something like mplayers
.mplayer/config file?
For example you could have a directory .mplayer/profiles in which simple
text files containing options are dropped and mencoder can then use the
options by running "mencoder --profile action" (which would take the
options from .mplayer/profiles/action).
Each profile could have something like:
vhq=true
4mv=true
lavc=true
vcodec=mpeg4
vbitrate=1000
and so on.
By not hardcoding settings into presets surely it would be easier to
maintain, plus there's the added benefit of people being able to
contribute profiles of their own tailored to certain types of film.
Sure it wont produce files as nice as those made experimenting with
different command line options, but it helps those that don't want to
experiment with different options.
Opinions?
