[MPlayer-users] Question about "Frame too small!" error

A colleague sent me a .avi file of an experimental sequence
he constructed today.  The .avi was built from uncompressed
.bmp files using a Matlab utility.  I've been able to play
other such sequences but this one won't play.  Instead I get
the output I've put at the end.

I notice that the .avi is found to be 8bpp.  I take it this means it's
monochrome.  This may very well be the case but the colleague
is not around to ask right now.

In any case, when Mplayer finally figures out which decoder to use
(see near the bottom) it prints:

which, I think implies it is expecting a file with frames twice the
size of a purely monochrome frame of dimensions 532x516.

Any suggestions on how to play this?  I've looked through the
commandline switches in the man page and the only thing I see is -bpp.
I tried -bpp 8 on the command line but it changed nothing.

I emphasise that I can play other _colour_ .avi files which he has generated
using the same process.
