Have You tried force use of mpeg12 instead ffmpeg12 (slow)? This is in 
official FAQ and help 100% performance boost on my K6-500. Only You have 
to do is "#" ffmpeg12 section in codecs.conf
I'm not using any cache options, only simple -framedrop -double -ao sdl 
-vo sdl
