It's the Question that drives us, Sipos Ferenc :

Using Xv the brightness can't be different in fullscreen than in window.
Unless you also change to a different videomode, which is very useless unless
you have small memory on videocard.

And, there is no brightness control in MPlayer. Maybe use xgamma or what.
