FYI:
I don't exactly reporting a bug! (and if it is, so only to gcc-3.0x)
Just my experiences with compiling mplayer with 3 version of it.
and I read DOC (about unwanted reports of gcc-2.ninety-six)
In Documentation is suggested (if you have RedHat which I have) to
downgrade/upgrade gcc
I decide to use default RH gcc-2.ninety-six*.xx (in my RH71distr). Compiled
without problem (of'course with appropriate option to ./configure).
The mplayer worked fine (but I wasn't able to get work it with
GUI...always complain it can't find Skin dir although I have them in
$user and $share dirs).
So I first upgrated to gcc-3.0.3-2 compiler + appropriated other
dependenced module like:
binutil, glibc, etc.
Then compilation fails with 2 errors. (should be attached to this message):
----snip---
make[1]: *** [libdha-0.1.so] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/DISKS/storage3/Install/Media/Video/OK/MPlayer/MPlayer-20020110/libdha'
make: *** [libdha/libdha.so] Error 2
------
So, I downgraded my gcc with dependenced other modules to your suggested
2.95.3
All compilation and later functionality was exactly (I didn't see any
visible diferences)
the same as if I compiled mplayer with default gcc in RH71.
my system info is NOW AFTER DOWNGRADE (so it doesn't reflect state with
gcc 3.0.x and compil.error:

newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
