[MPlayer-users] awful quality with mencoder and DivX

As i can see it is the newest version.
Avifile does not provide any newer version,
and the DivX 4.02 provided by DivX.com is from 10.10.2001.
They heavily develop the Windoze-version (4.12 now) but they not even release bugfixes for Linux!
They include thousands of new features, but they not even worked on that heavy SSE-bug both in Windoze and Linux version
causing that nice segmentation faults on SSE-CPUs.
That's why I can't stand Closed Source! No one can do anything, so I'm tending more and more to the new OpenDivX
at www.xvid.org or www.videocoding.de.
And the 4.02-Windoze DivX also has much more quality at that bitrates.
As I think it's the same engine running in the Windoze and Linux version,
either the API is not supported completely yet by mencoder or I didn't take the right settings.
I'd like to get a film of about 90 minutes to 670 MB. As source I use DVB recordings (has to be upscaled to 768 x 576) and DVD.
Both have to be deinterlaced to decrease CPU-load on the clients.
Can anyone give me hints to improve quality?
Thanx
Rene
