[MPlayer-users] ofps, how to compute?

When converting from one file to another, is there any definitive way to tell
what the source material was recorded as?  

Is it true that theoretically if a DVD is coded properly, then the data in the
header will be sufficent?

So that means the only time you need -ofps is if the headers are incorrect?
And in that case, the only way to really figure it out is just to try
different settings (23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 30) for ofps?  Which ones enable
3/2 pulldown removal?  24, 23.976?  

I've looked through all the docs and cant find any real discussion of this.
