DVD playback problem (was Re: [MPlayer-users] -dumpsrtsub bug?)

Thanks for your help.  Anyway, I tried to encode
the dvd into an avi using -oac copy -ovc copy,
but I the resulting file had two problems.
First, it was not indexed for some reason.
Secondly, mplayer would hang after a certain point.
Is there any other way that I could get around
this dvd's problems?  If I encode the entire thing
into divx, can I just -oac copy -ovc copy segments
to split it, or will this not work well?
