It's not true. With Linux 2.4.x and 2.2.x with LFS patch files over 2G
work OK. But you have to have:

- glibc and it's headers recompiled and installed in LFS enviroment
- program that will write such long files have to recompiled in this
  enviroment;
- it does not work automagically; program has to explicitly take
  advantage od LFS (just some flags to open() and/or some #define)
