[MPlayer-users] is this an acceptable forum for asking about SVCD creation using mencoder?

when I try this I get a few errors:

$  mencvcd test -noburn test.avi
**ERROR: [yuvscaler] No norm specified, cannot determine VCD output
size. Please use the -n option!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error
(failed read/write)!
*** [vo] Exporting mp_image_t, 320x240x12bpp YUV planar, 115200 bytes
~/bin/mencvcd: line 306:  9341 Broken pipe             mplayer
-noframedrop -vo yuv4mpeg -ao pcm -waveheader -v -osdlevel 0 $sub
$params
**ERROR: [mp2enc] Input not a WAV file - starts not with "RIFF"
**ERROR: [mp2enc] failure reading WAV file

Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong or is that mpegtools is not
working? I forced it in from RPM.

I pretty much get the same errors if I do it manually as well by playing
the YUV stream to a pipe and then trying to encode from that, though
then the errors are different:

$ mplayer -vo yuv4mpeg -ao null -vop -aspect 4:3 test.avi

(in another console)

$  mpeg2enc -a2 -f1 -F5 -v2 -o target.m1v < stream.yuv

Yields this:

**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] pel_aspect_ratio must be between 1 and 14 (MPEG-1)

I'm really new to all this. Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong?
