well, at first sight, the easiest way is to use libraries ;-)
ok, ok, this makes it OS dependant, but there's no real choice if you 
want to go quick.
so, if i were you, i would RTFM:
- for windoz: directx docs
- for linux (and eventually any OS ...): the SDL docs.
