yea, encode whole movie and split it afterwards, I've always done this
with VirtualDub or Nandub, but I think the avifile suite also has a tool
that can do it. Or another way: use -ss hh:mm:ss -endpos hh:mm:ss with
mencoder.

Btw. I guess these are RTFM-Type questions.
