I've noticed the same problem. Configuring with --enable-gui seems
to be relevant, as it doesn't happen if that switch is not given to
configure. 

In a way it's a "don't do it, then" problem...  And not fixed in CVS,
at least not in MPlayer CVS-020504-12:03-2.95.4.
