I always use variable bitrate when encoding avis by mencoder and I always thought that as they play in windows that they are good
but when my friend tried to edit avi a bit in virtualdub, it compained about improper vbr encodeing in avi and the output file is completely broken (audio is
out of sync and after short time dissapears at all). Not good for me as my friend is complete gBill Gates fan, so I had to suffer half a hour long presentation
on theme 'you see what happens when you use linux, if you would use windows there would be no problem at all, blablabla....' :-(.

does it mean that encoder creates buggy variable bitrate avis, or virtualdub is broken? I don't want to use cbr (I read here that it now works, but...)
