yep. but he is using redhat's patched kernel, so no wonder :)
we already know that redhat's patches to various programs makes mplayer
unusable... :)

another possible reason may be some change in the audio driver he uses.
he should try to disable audio and compare performance so, then start
complaining to driver autho rif it solve dthe perf. loss
