[MPlayer-users] "selected video_out device incompatible with this codec"

Hello,

I'm using mplayer for a few months now, and I remember that some weeks ago,
the color controls worked for my computer perfectly... so the XV output must
have been working then...
I've got an Nvidia Card and I'm using their binary driver...
And since a few days the color controls don't work. (I installed CVS Snapshot
from today (20021114).

On mpeg1 / 2 Files, mplayer tells me:
  Sorry, selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec.
  VDecoder init failed :(
and then it uses X11.

On DivX Files however, it doesn't display that error message, but it uses
X11 anyway. My ~/.mplayer/config file says "vo=xv", and if I append 
"-vo=xv" to the command line that doesn't change anything...

That's the output of mplayer started with an mpeg2 file:
