Error: PNG support required for GUI compilation, please install libpng
or libpng-dev packages.

Check configure.log if you do not understand why it failed.

When I start MPlayer with this installation, I get error messages about
libpng:

libpng warning: Application was compiled with png.h from libpng-1.2.5
libpng warning: Application is running with png.c from libpng-1.0.12
libpng error: Incompatible libpng version in application and library

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: unknown
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM. Recompile MPlayer with
--enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and disassembly. For details,
see DOCS/bugreports.html section 5.b.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen. It can be a bug in the MPlayer
code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your gcc version. If you think it's
MPlayer's fault, please read DOCS/bugreports.html and follow
instructions there. We can't and won't help unless you provide these
informations when reporting a possible bug.

I have already played around with different libpng-versions; could
anyone tell me how to fix this problem or which files to delete and
reinstall in order to avoid this mismatch?

Thank you in advance,

Matthias
