[MPlayer-users] enlightenment sound daemon

I cannot get mplayer to work with esd on a remote machine.

On the remote machine:

        $ esd -public -tcp -port 9999

On the local machine:

        $ export ESPEAKER=192.168.100.1:9999
        $ mplayer -ao sdl:esd foo.avi

does not work.  here is the output:

AO: [sdl] 44100Hz 2ch Signed 16-bit (Little-Endian)
SDL: Samplerate: 44100Hz Channels: Stereo Format Signed 16-bit (Little-Endian)
SDL: using esd audio driver
SDL: Unable to open audio: No available audio device
couldn't open/init audio device -> NOSOUND
Audio: no sound!!!

however, 

        $ mpg123-esd foo.mp3 

works just fine.

Does mplayer only support esd on the localhost?
