Yes, I did and yes it can. And I still fail to see my mistake. I doubt there 
is one anywhere but please feel free to point it out.

I clearly state I mean sblive 5.1 which has a digital out connector in the 
back of the card. Or did I happen to accidentally get an extra special 
version of this card? Paid 40€, not a bad deal in my opinion.

The digital out is just another 3.5mm stereo jack which has 3 contacts. 1 of 
them is shared ground. Each of the two others can deliver a stereo pair. So 
you get four discrete channels alltogether. But I've yet to find an amplifier 
that can actually take sound in and play it from two different digital 
sources so to actually use this feature you'll need those 31337 creative 
speakers or two digital in equipped amplifiers.

Welcome to the wonderful age of digital audio where you only need one wire :) 

So you can get 4 out in digital or 6 out in analog. Neat eh?
Maybe we should call it 4.2 cause the two mono channels are an ugly hack...
