I'd be happy to send nVidia a bug report.  I will also try downgrading 
to an earlier nVidia driver release to see if that helps any; presumably 
nVidia engineers would find that information useful if they decided to 
pursue the bug.

Regarding "had problems with the first port", do you have anything small 
that demonstrates the problem?  Clearly MPlayer is one way to reproduce 
the bug, but it's a pretty bing hunk of code.  Does anyone understand 
the issue well enough to crystalize it in a few dozen lines of C code? 
I don't know what the odds are that nVidia will tackle the problem, but 
I know the odds are better if we show it in a piece of dead-simple code. 
  I wish I could do this myself, but I don't know the first thing about 
XVideo.
