is it scsi?
if it is IDE try these:

mplayer -vcd 2 -cdrom-device /dev/hda
mplayer -vcd 2 -cdrom-device /dev/hdb
mplayer -vcd 2 -cdrom-device /dev/hdc
mplayer -vcd 2 -cdrom-device /dev/hdd
... and so on ..
The error is exactly the same, as the /dev/cdrom link pointed to my
second cd drive (ide-cd-rw)
