[MPlayer-users] vidix without being root or suid bit?

When I try vidix on my Radeon I get:

No vidix driver name provided, probing available ones!
blah
Radeon_vid: Error occured during pci scan: operation nor permitted
vosub_vidix: Couldn't find working VIDIX driver

Now I'd like to try vidix, but running as root is not an option, nor setting
suid since mpalyer can make internet connections. 
I'm not *that* paranoid, but I don't like to tak chances unless I have to.

My card is in dri-666 mode tho, this doesn't have to do a thing with vidix?
