Martin,

Now I remember the problem. You need to know the places to split to use
Mencoder for this. If you just type;

avisplit -i input.avi -s 690 -o output

Then it takes care of the splitting in one command w/o you having to
know where to split. That's what takes so long otherwise. The problem
is, you have to use AVIdemux before the above command to rewrite your
avi file so it will be interleaved, else AVsync loss will occur.
