You're missing the fact that gtk+ itself doesn't seem to have any xinerama
support (or at least they made it very hard to enable) so every program has
to support it all on its own. Same thing happens for example with gqview
fullscreen mode (except 1.1.5 which finally has xinerama support) and just
about every gtk+ app I've used. I still can't understand how X has had
support for zillion screens for ages but it still doesn't work right with all
software :)
So forget the broken and buggy gui and gnome; use kde and command line :-)
