Hello all,
I have a DivX AVI, encoded using mencoder from a DVD-ripped VOB. I am
attempting to drop the last few minutes of the video (the credits), but
things aren't working the way I expected after reading the docs. I've also
read numerous list emails involving -endpos but none gave me a fix.
Using mplayer, I found the time where credits start rolling. It's at about
6188 seconds. First, I used:
mencoder movie.avi -oac copy -ovc copy -endpos 1:43:08 -o movie_nocredits.avi
I also tried adding -ss 0:0:00 in there and changing -endpos to 6188.
When I view movie_nocredits.avi, it seems as though the video is in
slightly slow motion. The audio, on the other hand, runs along as it
should, leaving the video further and further behind. Another strange
thing is that mplayer reports the length in seconds as equal to the
original file (6529).
Aha, I just tried adding -fps 29.97 when playing movie_nocredits.avi and
the video is properly displayed. However, the length of the movie is still
the same. Stranger still, movie_nocredits.avi is 548MB, while movie.avi is
709MB. It's as if mencoder just dropped frames or something.
Am I going about this all wrong? Should I be removing the trailing few
minutes in a different manner?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
- Ben Jansen
