ok i read everything - twice (but still must have missed something)
when encoding anything on solaris using latest mencoder (not to say it didn't happen on revous releases) using lavc
eg (in its simplist form):
mencoder $1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=1 -oac copy -o /dev/null && mencoder $1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec
=mpeg4:vpass=2 -oac copy -o $1.lavc.avi
everything i encode works fine but with a green mask - if i transfer the result to a windoze machine or try and view it with anything (including mplayer) the result is the same (ie the encoded file always shows a green mask)
if i however use the following encode it works fine
mencoder $1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vfdct=1:idct=2:vpass=1 -oac copy -o /dev/null && mencoder $1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec
=mpeg4:vfdct=1:idct=2:vpass=2 -oac copy -o $1.lavc.avi
any clues from the wise ?
