[MPlayer-users] CD Audio

I'm having trouble getting mplayer to play audio CDs. 
I am running RH9 with Gnome.  The default CD player
plays the CDs fine, but mplayer does not. Do i need a
special codec or plugin to do this? Also, it wont
recognize DVDs either.  It plays divx/mp3 files fine
so A/V output is set.
Any help would be great.
