I know it says you can do -vo vesa:vidix in the docs, but I've never 
seen nor heard of it working.  However, I know that vidix DOES work with 
fbdev (I've used it regularly with a Radeon 8500 in fact), so I suggest 
you setup fbdev on your system, and use that instead.

As an add bonus, with fbdev, the edges of the picture are more square, 
not angled and distorted like you experience with vesa.
