No, -ovc selects the video encoder, not the container. Libavcodec does 
quite well encoding MPEG-4 anyway, which Quicktime should have no 
trouble with. However, mencoder cannot create any type of container 
except AVI. It cannot create Quicktime MOVs, or MP4s or anything else. 
If Quicktime understands AVI, it may be able to understand mencoder's 
output, but will probably be confused by an extension other than .avi.
