One more note: If you are sure you have gtk libs installed and still configure of avidemux fails
to autodetect it: Check if ldconfig is properly configured: Check if /etc/ld.so.conf contains
directory where gtk libs are installed. For example at my home machine with RH 9 it did not contain 
/usr/local/lib so I had problem with autodetecting lame in mplayer.
