I've been using alsa drivers for both devices. I might try the OSS ones
and see if that makes any difference.

I do have a printer port, but I'm not using it. I get some "spurious
8259A interrupt: IRQ7." messages from the kernel, but I've seen that
before and was under the impression that it was harmless. I do have the
kernel module loaded, but it's in polled mode. I just tried loading it
with io=0x278 and irq=7, but it complained that irq 7 is in use and
stayed in polled mode. I guess it can't share with the sound drivers.
Could that be the source of my problem? Maybe I should just tell the
BIOS to reserve IRQ 7 for ISA devices. I've been using one of the sound
devices on IRQ 7 for playback for a long time with no problems.
