Looks like gmplayer is configured to use vidix, which means you have to
be root. Depending on what type of GeForce4 you have, vidix may or may
not work for you even if you run it as root: the vidix driver doesn't
support the NV28-based GeForce4 cards.

Anyway, using xv instead of vidix is a pretty sure bet (and you don't
need special priviliges); if xv doesn't work, that means something is
wrong with X or your video drivers. You can set the gmplayer preference
for xv in the video tab.
