[MPlayer-users] mplayer from mozilla in background

In the mozilla helper applications I defined mplayer as the player for AVI files.
So far so good.
But if I start mozilla in the background with
     mozilla &
mplayer does not appear until I put mozilla again in the foreground.
Any suggestion?
I have lost a tread on mozilla, maybe there was the answer.
