No ordinary disk can read so fast. Try
time cat Panslow.yuv > /dev/null
If that takes more than 9 seconds (the length of your sequence) your
disk is the bottleneck.

A ramdisk would probably be your best bet. Of course, the obvious and
cheap solution would be to just reencode it to mpeg1, mpeg4 or mjpeg
before playing. Or perhaps try huffyuv if it has to be absolutely
lossless.
